- Optional (for serving): Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Step 1:
- Spread one side of each bread slice with softened butter.
- Step 2:
- Lay two slices, butter side down, on a clean surface. Spread 1 tablespoon fig preserves evenly on each.
- Step 3:
- Layer sliced Brie evenly over the preserves, followed by a generous handful of arugula.
- Step 4:
- Top each with the remaining bread slices, butter side up.
- Step 5:
- Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium low heat.
- Step 6:
- Place the sandwiches in the skillet. Cook 3 4 minutes per side, pressing gently, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted.
- Step 7:
- Remove from heat, let rest 1 minute, then slice and serve. Top with freshly ground black pepper if desired.
Save My family loves gathering around this sandwich on lazy weekends especially when we pair it with a crisp white wine.
Notes
Try substituting fig preserves with apricot or raspberry jam for a different flavor. Add thinly sliced prosciutto for a non vegetarian option. Pair with a crisp white wine such as Sauvignon Blanc or a light Pinot Noir.
